The Dissertation Editing Lab understands that choosing the right editor to collaborate with on your dissertation or thesis is an important decision, so I want to provide as much clarity about my process so you know what to expect if we do end up working together. If you don’t see your question below, please Ask the Lab and you will receive a response within 24 hours.

A: This varies depending on several factors including the length of the dissertation or thesis, the services requested, the complexity of the edits, and your deadline. This will all be discussed during your no-cost consultation with the Dissertation Editing Lab.

A: Dissertations and theses are typically edited within 10-15 business days. Additional details about the editing assignment are needed, including the length of the dissertation or thesis that needs to be edited and the complexity of the edits, before the Dissertation Editing Lab can commit to completing edits within a certain timeframe. Any editing assignment completed in less than 10 business days could be subject to a surcharge. This will be discussed during your no-cost consultation.

A: As soon as your editor feels he might need more hours to complete the edits than what was presented in your initial quote, he will contact you via email with an estimate of how many additional hours may be needed to complete the work. At that time, you can either agree for your Dissertation Editing Lab editor to continue editing past the agreed-upon number of hours, or you can discontinue services as soon as the initial agreed-upon number of editing hours is reached.

A: Yes, the Dissertation Editing Lab is well-versed in APA 7 and The Chicago Manual of Style 18th Edition and will ensure that your dissertation or thesis follows these formatting guidelines.

A: No, the Dissertation Editing Lab’s role as editor is to read dissertations/theses and offer feedback on grammar, spelling, syntax, format, style, punctuation, and adherence to formatting guidelines.

A: Yes, the Dissertation Editing Lab can provide assistance so that the headings/subheadings, Table of Contents, List of Tables, List of Figures, margins, tables, figures, charts, and appendices adhere to the required guidelines.

A: No, the Dissertation Editing Lab assumes all content is original and that there are citations when there are quotes/paraphrases.

A: No, the Dissertation Editing Lab’s role is to ensure citations follow the necessary formatting style.

A: You will receive at least two (2) weekly email updates while your dissertation or thesis is being edited. Each update will include the number of pages your editor has edited and the number of hours your editor has spent editing.

A: The edits in your Microsoft Word-formatted manuscript will be made in text with Track Changes. Additional comments, suggestions, and questions will appear in the right margin of the document.

A: Yes, after the no-cost introductory consultation, the Dissertation Editing Lab will provide you with an estimate of the total number of hours and the estimated total fee. Once these estimates are agreed upon by you and the Dissertation Editing Lab, both parties will sign an editing contract that spells out the entire scope of work, deadlines, and the estimated total number of editing hours and estimated total fee. Once the contract is signed by both parties, a 50% prepayment will be made to the Dissertation Editing Lab before editing begins. The balance will be due to the Dissertation Editing Lab upon completion of the edits.
